Blood in general can be seen as a witness, and this is depicted greatly on the night of the passover in the camp of the Israelites. The blood of the lamb stood as a witness to the justification of the Israelites when the Egyptians were charged (as a result of their political leader/covering, Pharaoh). Same way, the Blood of Jesus stands as a witness to our justification when charges are laid against us.
