When man was made in Genesis, He was made in the likeness of God. Meaning we were made as spirits, but in order to operate fully on earth, an earthly vessel was required, our body. In the beginning God dwelled with Adam and Eve in the Garden and fellowshipped with them daily. He was in constant communion with them. This shows God’s initial plan for man, He wanted to be with man constantly and be involved in the affairs of his day. But after the fall of man, he’s true self (spirit) died and he was sent out of the presence of God. After this God needed a way to bring man back into His presence and have constant communion with him again, but the sin of man was a literal barrier against this. So the Law was created to help man identify the sin in him and temporal remedies were provided to cleanse man from his transgression; like the sacrifice of animals and cleansing with the blood of the sacrifce. But even then, God did not want man to have to go through a medium (i.e. a priest) to meet with Him, He wanted a one on one (personal) relationship with man. So God decided to provide us with a permanent solution to this barrier, His Son Jesus Christ. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ has provided a way for man to return back to the Father, no longer as slaves but as Sons of Him.

God through His Son, has justified us. We are no longer slaves to the fear of the judgment that, in human reasoning, should come on us because of our unrighteousness. Jesus Christ, His Son, has paid the price of our past, present and future transgressions. He died so we can become sons to the Father, just like Him. His sacrifice and blood was able to do that which the Law was unable to do for us, make us in right standing with the Father. The Law is unable to bring us in right standing with God, the Law shows us the character of God. It helps us know how pure God trully is, because we need the righteousness of God to be revealed in us, in order to come into His Presence. The Law only makes us conscious of our sins but provides no remedy for their consequences. The Righteousness of God cannot be revealed in us through the law, it is only able to confirm God’s righteousness. God’s righteousness is only revealed in us through our Faith. However Faith does not nullify the Law, it simply is a remedy to the outcomes of the Law. You can read Romans 3 for more understanding.

The Chorus of the song by Bethel Music; I’m no longer a Slave to Fear, has two very strong meanings to me. At first hearing, the song ministered that because I am a child of God I had no business being afraid. This is very true, hearing this song or being reminded of my standing in Him gives me confidence to face problems. Apart from the literal meaning of no longer being “a Slave to Fear” it also emphasizes and explains our relationship with God and how because of our new standing with Him, we no longer need to live a life in continuous fear of judgement.

“For you have not received the spirit of fear leading again to fear [of God’s judgement], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry ‘Abba! Father!’”

Romans 8:15[Amp].

Needless to say, the only way we can truly be in right standing with God is if we believe that Jesus died for our sake and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.

“because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.”

Romans 10:9-10[AMP]

Believe and confess today and you will become a part of this great family of God.
