Continuing from the last post on the topic of communication, there are so many benefits to building a habit of constant communication with God. As previously stated, prayer is not just for laying our requests to God, it is also a tool used in getting to know and build a relationship with Him. The closer we get to Him the more He reveals to us; Prayer is also an avenue for God to reveal the plans of the enemies against us, to prepare us for what is to come or pray them away. This is one of the numerous benefits of drawing closer to God which comes as a result of prayers.
Apart from getting to know Him, prayer is a tool that we use to operate in the spiritual. As Christians it is important to know that the world we live in does not just consist of the physical, there is also the spiritual. In one of my previous posts (Salvation: Our Saviour), I spoke on how the fall of man led to our death and through the resurrection of Christ we are raised from the dead, our spirit man is brought alive. For there to be the existence of a spiritual life, that means there are spiritual operations and laws just like the physical, but the difference is that the spiritual controls the physical. An example of how the spiritual controls the physical is the story of Job, decisions made in the heavens affected Job’s reality in the physical. Now through prayers, we are able to command change and actions in the spiritual to affect our physical reality.
[18] I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, [19] and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength [20] he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, [21] far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
Ephesians 1:18-20[NIV]
We have been given Power as Christians, similar to that used to raise Jesus from the dead, it is above any other authority. This power is exercised in the place of prayer. It is one thing to possess this power, it is another to operate in it. We need to understand our authority as Christians, by doing so we can denounce the plans and actions of the enemies (principalities and powers) from a place of understanding. All of this is still communication to God because He is the righteous Judge. When we pray and make commands against principalities and power, the process is similar to actions taken in a court of law, we are bringing accusations of misdemeanours of these other spiritual authorities before God because we have an understanding that we are of a higher ranking than they are and that they have surpassed their limits with their actions. The reason this authority has been given to us is the sacrifice of Jesus, that is why we pray in His name and by calling His name, He then serves as an advocate (Lawyer) and He defends our case before the true Judge and as a true Judge He grants us victory. But the first action to this ripple is PRAYER.
God is a righteous judge, And a God who is indignant every day.
Psalm 7:11[AMP]
Before you are able to work in this authority and make commands in the heavens, the first prayer you have to make is a prayer of surrender, surrendering your life and accepting Him (Jesus) as your saviour. As stated before, by doing this you become raised together with Him and are given authority. This life is filled with so much chaos and evil not to be empowered and covered, surrender your life to Him today and begin to build your relationship with Him.
