MERCY

I have always associated Mercy with sin, which honestly isn’t wrong, but I have recently found that Mercy is way deeper than just forgiveness of sins. I can choose to forgive someone for an offence they have committed against me, but that doesn't completely describe Mercy. God’s Mercy towards us is way deeper than forgiveness, His word makes us know that it is renewed every morning, a fresh start. His Mercy is the reason why He still helps us out of situations He repeatedly warned us against. His Mercy is the reason we are able to come before His presence. His Mercy is the reason why David’s life was spared after the sin he committed by killing Uriah and marrying his wife. God’s Mercy is also the reason why Jesus Christ was born to the ancestral lineage of their union (Solomon), His Mercy is new every morning.
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23 [ESV]
His Mercy is also responsible for the favor we receive, the bible says The Lord said to Moses “ I will have Mercy on whom I will have mercy on and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion” - Romans 9:15. Paul used this statement to explain the circumstance Esau and Jacob faced. Before they were born their fate was already decided, through favor and mercy, Jacob was prophesied to rule over Esau.
We are not perfect, that is an established fact. We are all humans, even those we look up to. We can’t and shouldn’t judge anyone because of their weaknesses, because we all have ours. Google defines mercy as “compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm”. It can also be seen as compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone who is not deserving. We need to recognize that we are of a sinful nature and His mercy is the reason why we are able to come back no matter how many times we fall. We need to be conscious of our imperfections without leading to self condemnation. The balance between the two is Brokenness.
My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.
Psalms 51:17[AMP]
By being aware of our imperfections, in a way it casts out pride and also stops us from judging others. We have all sinned and falling short. NO SIN IS GREATER THAN ANOTHER!!!. It is just all by His Mercy that we are not consumed. Self Condemnation is different from Brokenness. Self Condemnation is when we beat ourselves down because of our sins and mistakes, and think we cannot be loved or forgiven by God as a result of them. It makes us feel broken without love. While Brokenness is a state of awareness of one’s weaknesses and an understanding that His grace in our lives is not as a result of our efforts but simply His mercies. Brokenness is also a state of repentance, not just to be aware of our errors but having a repentant heart towards God for them.
We are unable to serve God in spirit and in truth and obtain Mercy on our own. We need His help and the one and only way to get His help is to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. Believe that He died for us and that He also rose after three days. And that same resurrection power would save us from the strong hold(nature) of sin. Believe and accept Him today!.
