“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to seperate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
-Romans 8:37-39.
Every time I read these verses, especially 38 and 39 it really hits me differently. We hear it all the time ‘God Loves Us’, but to me these verses help me realize how deep that love is. A person may genuinely love you and an action of yours, distance, envy, or any other reason, may cause their love to diminish or even die. It does not necessarily mean they did not love you to begin with, It’s just that they are human. Now God has the type of Love that cannot fade away, no matter the situation. 1 John 4:8 says;
“The one who does not have love cannot become acquainted with God, for GOD IS LOVE ”
He is Love itself. If you are sensitive enough, you would feel or see God’s love in a lot of your day to day activities. There’s the obvious display of love when He gives us the grace to see a brand new day, without having to fight or pay for it. Another is the ability to do simple tasks such as eating, breathing, seeing and so on. All the things we do everyday without effort is His display of love. But I’m not talking specifically about these ones. I’m talking about His display of Love in the most unexpected and non obvious ways. I see him uplifting me when I feel down in very subtle but intentional ways. Like that puppy that just happened to pass by when I was almost in tears, instantly lifting my spirit or me being confused about something and then the next person I speak to gives me the solution to that problem. These are not coincidences, these are His intentional acts of Love. Understanding His love also helps us see His love during the tough times and gets us through it.
His love cannot die, no matter what we do “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?... Romans 8:35”. But if in all things we can understand this simple truth that He loves us and that He does not do anything out of Hate, but Love, it would help us in a lot of tough situations. We should know that God does not punish His children, He disciplines us so we don’t go back to our wrong ways (Revelations 2:19). Jesus already took the punishment for sin for us. We should also know that He’s plans for us are the best for us, better than what we can ever plan for ourselves (Jeremiah 29:11). If we can focus on this fact through our journey in life, it would really help us put things in a great perspective. When the going gets tough know that He’s plans are for your good, not to punish you or because He has neglected you, but for your good.
His love for us is so deep that He desires to have a constant relationship with us. It has always been His plan, even after the fall of man. He desired a one on one relationship with each person that through Christ He gave us the privilege to come into His presence and commune with Him. He is always ready to hear from us, the good the bad and the ugly. Our relationship with Him should not just be about asking and receiving, or calling only for help. We should be in constant communication with Him, about everything. How our day went, the struggles we faced, the things that made us sad or happy, and so on. And like in any relationship, our relationship with Him should also be about giving. Give Him praise, not just when we want something. We should give Him our service, our time, also our love. And the best way to love God is by showing love to others (Matthew 25:31-40).
Now although He loves everyone, even those that are lost and are not in Christ. In order to truly experience His love and His presence, you have to make the deliberate step to surrender your life to Him through Christ. Do this and experience His love in the fullest.
